Chamara - चमरा

The yak cannot come down.

Its body is built for thin, cold air. Oversized heart and lungs, no working sweat glands, a coat that turns into rope, tent cloth, and blankets. In Khumbu, Dolpo and Mustang there are no roads, so everything a village needs arrives on a yak's back. The female gives milk pressed into cheese hard enough to outlast a winter. The mountain gives almost nothing. The yak makes that enough.
