Om - ॐ

The oldest texts say the world began as a sound.

Om is that sound, and the claim made for it is enormous. Everything that was, everything that is, and everything still to come is held inside one syllable. It is spoken at the start of prayer and cut into stone across the Himalaya. The knot beside it is a single cord folded through itself, with no first end and no last. One has no beginning. The other has no end.
